Petrichor

You know that super specific, earthy, fresh smell right after the rain begins to fall on dry ground? There’s actually a word for it!

It’s called petrichor.

Petrichor is that amazing scent produced when rain hits the dry earth. Fun fact: The word comes from Greek! ‘Petra’ means stone, and ‘Ichor’ was the mythical blood of the Greek gods. So it’s literally the ‘blood of the stone’. How cool is that?

So next time it rains, you can say, “Ah, I just love the smell of petrichor!”

What’s your favorite smell? Let me know in the comments!
